I had just joined AL from the Indian Army and here was a smart group of Ashok Leyland GETs of 2002 batch already under training in MDC (Although that was the most insipid GET training program in those days). They were about to finish training and were due for departmental allocation. Gunjan was perhaps one of the first I noticed…yes one has to get noticed. It was true 40 years back and it is true now. In short, he wanted corporate logistics: very focused and very passionate about it.
He made me talk to the ED and rest as they say is history. In very short time with some support from ED, he gave a face to logistics in AL. I think he must have saved a few crores although he faced resistance because of his no holds barred assertiveness at such a young age. He has not looked back since then although as it happens with all of us, he had his sine curve features in the years gone by. Gunjan is a powder keg and anyone who can ignite it can get devastating effect.
Like a powder keg it has to be let loose at the right place, to avoid collateral damage. He is full of energy, plays by instinct and goes for the kill, whatever the costs. I quote old GETs when I talk to the new GETs/ MBAs at B schools and I think Gunjan has his fair share of mention in my lectures. When I lecture a risk averse group, Gunjan is the appropriate example even today! Since there are a large number of you who will read, some of you may be able to recognize him. I can write about five pages on him but this should be enough for today! Hi, Gunjan, best of luck. I will keep tracking you till I can log on to my laptop!
